Seattle

What a wonderful weekend in Seattle celebrating William’s 30th with his parents!

We met at SeaTac Thursday afternoon before grabbing our rental car and heading to the hotel. After dropping off our bags and parking th car, we grabbed a taxi down to Pike Place and walked around the market before grabbing drinks and a bite at Pike brewing. After our late lunch we walked around a bit more grabbing some gelato and chocolates and admiring all the gorgeous flowers and great view of the sound. We headed back to the hotel to check-in and ended up ordering delivery sushi that night.

Friday morning we were up bright and early to drive up to Anacortes for our full day of whale watching. Before we boarded the boat, we grabbed coffee and doughnuts and the men picked up some beer for the day. The whale watching around the San Juan Islands was beautiful! The Pacific Northwest is a magical place and in my opinion, one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. We saw a humpback on the Canadian border and saw a pod of Orcas during meal time off San Juan Island. We also saw harbor seals, many different birds and harbor porpoises. It was an incredible day. After the boat tour ended we stopped at Anacortes brewing for some drinks. That night we grabbed supper at Anthony’s and I had a tasty huckleberry lemonade and rockfish with huckleberry sauce and William had ginger mussels that were really good.

Saturday we visited the Space Needle and Chihuly Gardens before meeting up with the Alabama alumni of Seattle to watch the game. It was fun to find a bar that was showing the game, but the football team just looks ugly this year which made it a pretty quiet crowd. After the game we headed back to the hotel to watch more football and ordered a really good local pizza for dinner.

Sunday we headed to the aquarium and on a harbor tour. We also grabbed lunch at Ivers and visited a few of the shops along the pier. Seattle loves their 50 Shades of Grey, Frazier and Sleepless in Seattle, but weren’t loving Grey’s Anatomy the way I remember them 7 years ago. Sunday night we met up with my friends from college in Montana, Amanda and Chaz, for dinner at a great little Italian place – Borolo Ristorante. I had a burrata salad that took me back to Puglia and a pheasant gnocchi that was incredible! My wine selection and poached pear dessert were delicious too, as was the caprese salad, grilled octopus and foccia that served as appetizers. It was sweet being able to catch up with old friends and enjoy a delicious meal with everyone.

Monday morning we packed up and checked out of the hotel before hitting the zoo. After the zoo we returned our rental car and sent Sandy and David to Atlanta before William and I grabbed lunch and explored SeaTac. It was an easy layover where we were able to grab both lunch and dinner, in addition to grabbing drinks from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf where I also picked up some chai for home.

Our flights home were easy and we were able to watch Pitch Perfect 2 after watching Inside Out to start the trip.

I loved our weekend and look forward to another trip to Seattle sometime in the future.
